MISSION STATEMENT:

We long to reach the heart of children at Seaside. We will create an environment where kids are learning about and/or living out their relationship with God as they come together to process, be encouraged, and be equipped in community with their peers and loving adult leaders.

PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY:

In Seaside Kids Ministry, community is the core avenue for kids to learn about God. We believe that a kid’s ministry doesn’t draw kids to Christ but that Christ draws them to Himself. The kid’s ministry is an avenue where kids learn the joy of being discipled and learn the value of that process within a community of their peers and adults who love them. The heart is where God wants to live and change. Our teaching, conversations, and living life together seek to always be directed towards the heart.

CORE VALUES:

A Commitment to teaching the redemptive story of scripture to kids in an age appropriate manner that they understand.
A Commitment to having relationships with kids that point them to Christ.
A Commitment to a safe, accessible setting for kids.
A Commitment to teach kids how to live, process, and apply God’s word in community with their peers.

252 Basics is an easy-to-use curriculum centered on 3 Basic Truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52: “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”

•I need to make the wise choice.
•I can trust God no matter what.
•I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

By the time children reach the sixth grade, we want them to understand and own these 3 Basic Truths, so they’re reinforced each week. We also focus on a core virtue each month. (Respect, initiative, uniqueness, joy, determination, kindness, courage, humility to name a few) and teach through these virtues in the context of the Biblical story. The 252 Basics curriculum allows our kids to interact with adults and their peers in a community environment where they can process, learn, and apply biblical truths in context of the redemptive story of the Bible. Our hope is to raise up kids who don’t just have a knowledge of the Bible stories but a context of the redemptive story of the Bible and God’s grace.

Overview of 2nd service schedule SCHOOL AGE classes:
11:40-12:00 Check-in/”Plug In”-entry activity & question-Following check-in, kids will go to their room with their peer group and adult leader(s). Plug In is designed to introduce children to the day’s topic in a community setting allowing for interaction with their small group of peers and leader(s).

12:00-12:25 “Power Up”-Both classes will in the Big Room. Leaders will sit with their classes and help keep kids focused, etc. The point is not to create a “library” setting but also not to create a “rock concert” setting. We want kids to have fun, but also to be engaged in the teaching. The teacher will present the Bible Story for the day in a way the kids can understand and process up front. Our goal is to teach scripture in an environment where kids can hear it and understand it.

12:25-12:45 “Catch On”-Kids will go back to their original room. Catch On is designed to help kids understand how the day’s topic applies to them. They’ll discuss real-life experiences, interact with their peers, and participate in a variety of activities that appeal to different learning styles. Life-application and memory-verse activities, as well as prayer, are always a part of this hands-on time. The curriculum leads us into asking questions that will help kids think, process, and apply the virtue and Biblical story in the context of their everyday lives. Our hope is that kids see the redemptive nature of how scripture speaks to their condition and everyday life and struggles. We want to give kids the ability to talk through these things and interact with the scripture in the context of their peer community. The goal is to teach kids the value of discipleship with caring adult leaders and the value of being in community with their friends in the body of Christ.
